SecondWife : More Porn Production

January 30, 2007

Today I was informed that my employer will ALWAYS block Secondlife via it’s web access firewall. How convenient. How daft. How outrageous. How dumb.

Well ….fuck it…….I’m going to get a bunch of t-shirts and just be done with it……wear them to work…..wear them to the shop…….get married in it.

What a paradox considering that tommorow we are getting down to serious business with some SL converts convinced that SL has many educational potentials.

Either it has got potential or heaven forbid the piss-taking is really taking a hold on us all in FirstLife

After all …..( tic) SL will lead to our kids being inundated with virtual news readers cutting away to bashings and rapes and chocolate advertisements and Jerry Springer look alikes and……flying phalluses.

Would’nt want a political loose end now would we ?

…….and Blogger, Google and Yahoo and a host of others on top of YouTube. That’s intellect for you .

If they like it, turn it off. If it moves shoot it. …..in 2007.

I’m astounded……..as always the fight goes on.

By For Now : SuperUsers Replace EDNA

January 30, 2007

Chris.superuser’s blog site makes me want to screem or flip coins and curl up in embaressment. This character is pushing the limits in user design while running some amazing amount of plugins …enough to make a blid sight reader curl. Jo Kay put me onto Chris. So did the TALO links.

Now he’s got me thinking differently. Feed scraping.

Stephen Downe’s
been doing it for years and Leigh’s made me click onto the next big thing ….it’s getting clearer.

I’m taken with it. Sort of looks like where it’s heading with a multiple digestion zone, multiple feeds and so on. The Planet Planet bit though has really got me and I really digg what Chris has offered to help us at LearnScope with……….a community site …..a place that showcases what people’s are doing in places…..without requiring them to login……password ….get lost.

The other thing I think has it going for this sort of conversation composite is that it effectively honours writers and their spaces…..it replaces EDNA groups for me……perhaps I’ll blog on that when I’m not so jetlagged and micro-sleep affected.

bfn.

Eve Mosque AICS

January 29, 2007

Thirty eight degrees and the storm’s about to kick in and blow away all the grime that sticks like plaque build-up on aging metro-arteries.

Perth is still a small city.

Somewhere west of anywhere where racism and tranquility exist side-by-side. A place where you go to the bar and still get asked whether your after a black ale with a snigger. Where high tea sits somewhere between football scores and a rum and coke chaser. A crystal clear sea side metropolis filled with English ex-pats, teachers, aged traditions and puritanical penal poetry.

Where the beaches and the bitches with their tramp stamps shout “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie….fuckin oi oi oi ” down the main street of what was a jewel in the crown of Australia’s crown.

The Australia Day celebrations here were a mixture of Aboriginal swarm attacks, firefights, excess alcohol and hippy girls oozing patchouli and sex.

Oh……..what of Sydney ?

Aside from the fact that I’m here working with the PodMob group from the Parnngurr, Punmu and Jigalong communities…….the under-current’s clear that this is no longer my home, this Perth city. Kind of now reminds me of the aquatic shipping pens of the Gold Coast.

Fast and furious sun tan salons. Gross saline implants. Wide open Art Deco demolition sites.

Aside from that it’s been a weekend of swimming, networking with LearnScope co-ordinators and colleagues from previous roles WA statewide. My time’s done here but not without the odd pang of……..”Did I make the right decision ?”

Too bloody right……………….bring on 2007.

And now for the good news.

Spam : Meet Mayhem

January 23, 2007

DSCF3222

Some interesting spam is working its way into my g-mail lately and at last count the spam trap harboured close on 350 beauty’s.

Like this one. Good grief.

Dear friend,

I know that this letter may come to you as a suprise. I got your contact address
from the Internet when I was searching for a business partner. My name is DR .MUHAMEDE AZIZ.

I am the Bill and Exchange Manager of bank ofafrica (B.O.A) ,Ouagadouguo Burkina Faso.

In my department we discovered an abandoned sum of USD$25.8 Million
(TWENTY FIVE MILLION,EIGHT HOUNDRED U.S DOLLARS). In an account that belongs
to one of our foreign customer who died along with his wife and children in a plane crash in a year 2000 plane crash.

Since we got information about his death, the bank have been expecting his next of kin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release it unless somebody applies for it as the next of kin or relation to the deceased, as indicated in our banking guidelines but unfortunately we learnt that all his supposed next of kin or relation died alongside with him in the plane crash leaving nobody behind for the claim.

It is therefore upon this discovery that I decided to make this business proposals to you and release the money to you as next of kin or relation to the deceased for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it because I don’t want the money to go into the bank treasury as unclaimed Bill.

The request of foreigner in this transaction is necessary because our late customer was a foreigner and a Burkinabe cannot stand as next of kin to a foreigner. I have agreed that 30% of this money will be for you as foreigner partner in respect to the provision of a foreign account.10% will be set aside for expenses incurred during the business and 60% would be for me, after which I shall visit your country for disbursement according to the percentages indicated.

Please reply me with this information below.

YOUR ID CARD OR INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT……………
YOUR AGE………………………
YOUR PROFESSION………………..
YOUR COUNTRY…………………..
YOUR PARIVATE TELEPHONE NUMBER…………………..

Trusting to hear from you immediately.

Yours mostly Sincerely,

DR .Muhamede Aziz

Well……………..hmmm. Makes me want to do a number of things but mostly cringe at the potential grammar and contextual formatting expereince that could be embarked upon with this poor sod. Kind of works though in some strange way.

In fact, I recall Robyn Eckermann who consulted on the Transact mobile wimax grid installation once sending back a series of links to a community in Tanzania to respond through and chased down the culprits to find out it was a genuine plea for help. Ten AUD was all that was needed to keep them happy.

Here’s the look on the faces of the poor sods over at CLI who encountered him switching between poo jokes, physics, access to broadband politics, carnivals of 1990’s mobilists and copper wire networks.

Back to the letter ….the twenty five million dollar dollar bit gets me crankin’. If you seriously wanted my details as above then a simple web search would have given you the lot. Twenty five cents might have kept me interested.

Follows on from what I was saying about keeping the web in this world and something about the way we use it. We have nothing to fear but ourselves.

Some blog, some comment, some dream up scams so elaborate they rip themselves off.

Carnival Of The Globalists : MPLE’s on the rise?

January 22, 2007

Ten years ago it was EduKite. Now it’s EdU 2.0

Others reckon the web’s definetly gone mobile. It’s as old news as CD is compared to the DET portal. It’s sliding into Sloodle or otherwise not visible at all.

It’s all about connections.

Like Carmun . So why are we still hacking Blogger and pretending we know what a PLE is ?

It’s about as obvious as taking up on Google’s educators package. Or phreeking your local school out and suggesting they take up the DigiCation offer. …..if your in the US. Perhaps it’s all just as cheap Nuvvo.

It’s not just about web 2.0 ………..although the plenary shorts looked positive.

On a mobile tack work’s buying me a Nokia N80. The N91 fell off Randwick Racecouse mezanine level and has never been the same since.

Tells me I’m in Amsterdam which I can believe some times.

Convinced them into something did more than beep and fit in my pocket….and give me curry.

It will be hooked in Shozu running back to Moblog.co.uk which re-posits at Flickr.

I’ll be blogging project team outcomes to Blip

For $45 US I could have been at mobile 2.0

Failing that I could have been catching up on some feeds over at;

E-Learning Is Passe

January 18, 2007

Picked this one up via the dreaded email virus which threatens to consume the world;

Voyaging into a new decade!
TCC WORLDWIDE ONLINE CONFERENCE
April 17-19, 2007
Pre-conference dates: April 3-4, 2007
BLENDING REALITY AND MULTIMEDIA IN UBIQUITOUS LEARNING
Submission deadline: January 26, 2007
Homepage: http://tcc.kcc.hawaii.edu

CALL FOR PROPOSALS. TCC 2007 invites faculty, support staff, librarians, counselors, students, administrators, and consultants to submit proposals for papers, discussions and other presentations that address this year’s conference theme.
http://tcc.kcc.hawaii.edu/2007/tcc/proposals.html

INTRODUCTION. E-Learning is passé.

U-learning is the new wave globally in higher education. Ubiquitous learning encompasses e- learning and emphasizes learning anytime, anywhere and anyway in both formal and informal lifelong learning environments. As u-learning and Web 2.0 technology evolve, social interaction, intercultural communications, and global collaboration increases in importance.

Social networking and learning communities are integral components of u-learning.

Through online social networks, young adults today gain a sense of community that is important in their daily and social life. How can we learn from this? How can we learn from our students?
What is the status of social networking (Facebook, Mixi, etc.) and online learning communities today? Have they succeeded or have they withered away? How can we complement our students’ prior experiences with interacting socially online? How can we assess learning in this new environment? Will mobile phones become synonymous with u-learning as proponents advocate? How do we train faculty and staff and engage them to support productive learning communities? Will learning communities help bridge the Internet divide? How do we “feed and weed” effective learning communities or social networking systems in the U-learning era? Will virtual worlds such as Second Life become a new learning environment?

THEME.

TCC will offer papers and presentations on the evolution, trends, successes, or failures of learning communities and social networking systems in higher education. 5 Things : WorldwideTag Team

January 17, 2007

Turnitin. Sheesh…….my students would have a fit.

Here’s me mucking around before I ventured off into the web. How I miss those tutes.

It’s ten pm and I’m sitting in my undies, on the seventh floor inside my apartment, with my boss on the other side of the room struggling through a will re-write. I’ve got twenty five cents to my name and I’ve washed chicken and salad down with a good dose of Artichoke

Here is what I’m listening to as I sit here contemplating what you look like and what you are listening to yourselves. Extending on the idea of compression.

On the work front I have calculated that I spend more time deleting things now than I do creating them. Where else can one be paid to speak in tongues ? Whats with this email culture ? When can we get a media-wiki loaded to the DET portal ? Where’s my teachers Google look alike start page complete with widgets ? Weren’t we promised that or was that the year before last ?

Code wise I’m no further ahead in figuring out why the ” ” in the NSW LearnScope blog has reverted to trademark symbols. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated . Put the word ‘ creative’ in the search field and click search. See what I mean ?

The swipe cards dont work, I’m ready for a holiday and we have ten days to go till I’ll be frantically flying around the state imparting pearls of wisdom to those competitively seeking funding to explore e-learning…….with outcomes. Imbedded. Discernable. Crunchable.

As for a serious consideration for imparting localised and networked research using social bookmarking. Oh, shit no. Too damned revealing and what would other people do with all those links we might be collecting ? Better to just bury it in some Sharepoint portal and talk shop in the courtyard having a fag and a strong coffee and cookie combination. Two camps. After all what about the aunthenticity of the source, the vetting and letting process, the management of meta, the peer review pressure cooker.

Memory interlude ……I read somewhere recently that an important SecondLife presentation was rudely interupted by a form posing as a Darwinian memeplexe, an ever evolving, multiplying penis which sucked bandwidth and generally caused confusion and chaos. A bit of digital culture jamming gone right for once. Well perhaps the following may not exactly raise your cockles but it sure might spoil the soup your cookin’.

It’s a fact.

It’s probably the first time I’ve felt like writing something after the crazy christmas and nutter new year antics.

So…….backtracking to playing tag here goes. Oh…..before I go on, I spoke of this to a few work colleagues who either were either bemused or dismissive of the idea that divulging anything more than we do anyways as web wanderers does more for anyone knowing more of you anymore than a zillion other connected sites couldnt speak of.

As if it’s meant to make any sense.

1. My Father who is 72 years old suffered a brain annurism followed by a stroke over the Christmas break and I spent most of it driving backwards and forwards from the hospital, lifting him on and off toilets and struggling to lift his spirits……you know the kind of thing……….accusing him of chatting up the nurses or letting of rippers that threatened to peel the paint. My Father is a beautiful man who dosent remember anything of the hospital stay nor at times who I am or what I doing there in the toilet with him. Nor the cruel bastard he was as a younger man. Nor the devastating effects and enlightened determination I undertook to beat the ways of the street.

It’s a curious thing considering your own state of mortality.

2. I am the father of three beautiful children. Kamahli Jae is sixteen years of age and is the most grown up, gentle willow wand in amongst shrubs of students in her high school. Amelia Manon is now nine years old and my cherub child, fiesty and mischevious. I’ll let you guess what age the third child is and to whom.

Two years ago Jonti Maya passed into the heavens at five months short of crowning her head into the ravages of this cruel world.

Neither of my children live with me. One lives in Western Australia and the other in Melbourne, Australia. My girlfriend lives an hour flight away.

I have lost and lived and loved and forgiven and forgotten and smiled and cried myself to sleep more often than my greying head cares to admit.

3. Education has saved me from a certain fate of living in the big house. Patch together Romper Stomper, Once Were Warriors, One Flew Over Cuckoo’s nest and Lost Highway and you’ve found me as a teen.

4. I’ve been married and divorced twice. I’ve nursed one Father-in-Law till he passed away of cancer and it broke my heart. He taught me more than I have ever learnt anything about creative practice from anyone. I hope one day life will allow me to paint again where I can put into practice what he so unconditionally imparted.

5. You folks I consider to be part of my vast and extended family, my online confidants, my multiple-headed-muse, my fickle friends.

And in the keeping with the invitation to tell us a little more…………….
