kamahli.com
December 22, 2007
It’s Christmas time and I’m sitting here at my parents home in Sydney, Australia with my eldest daughter assisting with the design of her new website - kamahli.com
It is an interesting thing for me to see where my creative aesthetics differ with hers and then the things that bring us back together again in the discussion. Your probably wondering why we are doing this over the Christmas break…..choice.
This is a rare moment for us both to sit together and do things without the clamour of trying to connect from states away ( Kamahli lives in Western Australia ) . It’s also a chance to bounce ideas around for where we are headed using the web as a communication tool and product / service crossroads.
I never imagined life would go this way.
It’s a beautiful day here sitting on the balcony, feet up, sun shining, coffee in one hand …mousepad in the other.
Bloglines | Ode To

Today I deleted all my subscriptions in Bloglines.
Eeek! some would say but no that Google reader allows for Blogrolls to be published and clip pages to be generated. You can see the results in the sidebar of my own blog production here.
I’m all for letting it go despite the amazing use I’ve had over the last two years.. …..sorry guys.
A brilliant application while it lasted but just not cutting the mustard unfortunately.
FLNW2 : My Conversation Begins.
December 9, 2007
FLNW Timetable
December 9, 2007
Barbara Dieu spent a great deal of time with me last night figuring out a way to ensure that anyone with the right intent could enter the FLNW2 wiki, get an idea what’s happening, add themself as a “conversationalist” rather than a presenter and figure out a way to meet the needs of those who missed the boat …or the international time switching.
I’ll be honest…the timeworldclock confuses me at the best of times so please bear with me while I go through this steep learning curve.
In my mind I’m resting easier that those that wish to participate can simply be filling out the registration form which I then transfer the main details through to the FLNW2 Google calendar. …..in fact that gives me an idea. If I change the email address around in the JotForm to the FLNW Google group address then everyone will have full view of the entry although this may pose an issue as it also gives away the IP.
I’ll request some feedback on that idea and see where we go to from there.
With Bee’s feedback I’ve changed the form around to NOT require an email address ( removes complicit values ) and to ensure we catch the best possible data to inform the process of connecting at times before , during and after the FLNW2 event.
The best part of the plan is the idea to encourage those registering to also consider beginning a VoiceThread ( brilliant web application ) before the FLNW2 “begins”….in fact by doing so I consider it already begun. The other idea is to encourage conversations to be spread asynchronously using Slideshare and for those up to it via a Slidecast.
This means that the asynchronous and synchronous elements of the FLNW2 conversation are coming together and those lucky enough will be able to connect others back into the grid from Thailand.
FLNW2 Online Conference
December 8, 2007
Another full day working on the FLNW2 un-conference wikisite and getting web forms, registration and other goodies underway.
Speaking with Janet Hawtin about the wrapup session on the 28th January in Melbourne, 2008.
The registration form enables people to join the discussions.
Retrodicals | Printdown’s
December 7, 2007
You’ll notice some changes in this blog structure and the way it reads again so here’s hoping this is the end of the spring clean for 2007 and that I can get down to some serious summer business.
Today was the wrap-up meeting for NSW LearnScope and this alone has given me the jitters. Back to consultancy land for a while amidst changes to the local working politic….it makes me happy though to know that NSW LearnScope as a project has been successful , exhausting but awesome two year project (s) journey.
I drove back through the most torrential downpour today all the way over the hill from Sydney to Orange and then have been behind the console since;
- updating the FLNW2 wikispace timetable
- confering with the TALO mob and the overlap with TESOL EVO 2008 group
- Twittering
- chatting with Graham Wegner about the concept of printdowns.
The idea behind printdown goes something like this. A lot of our writing online is at risk of never being printed which for some is no real issue as it means that there’s less paperwork to be worried about.
What about our kids, those in the future who may have missed the online and who for many reasons may never access our musings and connections ? Sure, we could say the same about any online site, wiki, podcast etc. but in my estimations blogging is about a textual connection which has some artefact value.
It would be great to see other people offer a one year printdown of their blog for sale via a widget in the side-bar….it would give others an oppourtunity to digest the stories differently.
It’s a though anyway and probably one I’ll follow up in the new year. Maybe printdown from Jan 1. 2007 to Jan 1. 2008.
Lots happened during that period in my life.

Prude …get a life.
Profanity is no more needed in an educational context than religion, politics or bad coffee on a thirty-kids-screaming-their-way-through-a-tobacco-stained-relief-day in a mid-west high school with razor wire and climbing roses.
Time to buy that t-shirt.
Reef n’ Beef Week Antics
December 4, 2007
Yoddle ah e o’ !
On the eve’ of Casino Beef Week and Tamworth Music Festival , the Hahira Honey Bee Festival and the 81st Annual Festival of the Lights I reflect on the Edublogger Awards for those self nominated or otherwise.
IP counts preclude those indulging in total self narcissism and heaven forbid ….I tried to vote for Sue Waters and Graham Wegner twice to no avail. For a moment there I thought we were going to see the statistics lists revealed and open for business but I’m now assured it was a mistake.
Just for a moment there I thought we were seeing a new way of working with the networked public…..
Make no mistake I’m all for festivals. Nor am I questioning authenticity nor do I request accountability, quality assurance, outcome audits nor am I partial to celebrities touting petty politic as trade offs for product placement.
I’m all for cellar-brations and it’s an honor to be acknowledged as a fellow open web author amongst a field of contenders who are happy to survive on the occasional morsels of trackbacks.
A mighty applause goes to JoKay who’s married mayhem with magic.
Vote for Pedro.

Finally….a brilliant image gallery for Wordpress.
I’m so impressed I’ll probably donate something shortly. I’ve seriously stumbled on this and it meets all my needs for blogsided art gallery which complements the experiments in Flickr.
