Alex you just described my day. :) The source of income is always a constant worry, to the point of being depressing at times for me. I love the challenges and the lack of bureaucracy (my role being a little different to yours), but the idea that we live on fresh air and love and need no income is a constant source of puzzlement to me too. Ironically this attitude is usually held by those who wouldn't dream of doing anything without a hefty pay cheque attached to it.

Oh well.

I also think you forgot to add "Do things in one day that others didn't manage to do for several weeks even though they were paid to do it... oh and for nothing please".

Still there are rewards. Some things would just never happen if there were not people willing to step outside the prevalent thinking in organisations and “just do it”. Its frustrating, its tough at times, but in my case at least, something like Learning Table would never come into being if I was just another employee. I’m sure you can relate to similar events.

Still there are days I would like a regular income, until I remember the reasons I choose to leave the last job like that.

The article on infomatics looks really interesting. For some time I have read up on some of the worlds great philosophers, learning of their viewa on life, etc. I haven't been able to read this slideshow completely due to it being so small and me not knowing how to get it bigger, but it looks interesting. Thanks, Alex

Alex, you risk too much in this format with what you create here. You really must create audio visual mashup so as to ensure your message is not lost in the wrong medium. Keep it com'n.. but do more with it. Text is for poofs (in the Aust'n colloquial in case anyone freaks)..

Your last statement is significant and bears much reflection. It typifies my approach when I first introduced blogging to my students. The 'fear' factor is huge!! Yet, over the last 8 months 'nothing has happened' and we have gradually loosened the ropes and allowed far richer learning to develop. I have been able to guide, teach and remind students of appropriate protocols as the need arises and give advice on any safety issues that might arise. Having attended a conference where Will Richardson presented I was reminded by him that we need to teach students to be googled and to be googled well. The number of sites that are blocked in our school is alarming and even one of my students innocent blog site was blocked due to 'global content'!!!

Very true Michael.

It's so easy to rattle of cynicism and it's a real challenge to say something better in place of something stupid.

Gets easier with time.

Like the mood of this post Alex. And yesterday I rediscovered the text of a poem from the Tao Te Ching (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tao_Te_Ching) that seems to resonate here. (don't really like using that word but....)

Care about people's approval
and you will be their prisoner.
Do your work, then step back.
The only path to serenity.

Sounds great Alex,

I'm meeting an Ed Dept IT director soon and would love to have a summary of some of these materials to take with me when I go into bat for some policy adjustments. I'm looking at better protocols for allowing access to useful technologies.

Cheers and chookas.
