Springforms

Artist Statement

Across the wheatbelt of West Australia lies strewn through countless fields, along creek lines, paddocks, rocky outcrops, and bushland literally millions of tonnes of discarded steel from farming practices. The tyne of the old tractor towed rake through to the turning disks of the furrow plow are discarded everywhere. These shapes and forms lend themselves to be used in a creative arts context to be welded together into what appear to be organic shapes or ‘spring forms’. The artist has added hand-forged blacksmith ‘emerging seeds’ to accentuate the symbolic re-birthing of this scrap. These sculptures are part of my solo exhibition at Gomboc Gallery in 2003.
