“…Ten young people have been selected to develop art that will be placed in and around the Town of Vincents, Perth, Western Australia’s planned youth facility in Leederville. The talented team will work with established Perth artists Gabrielle Mazavelskis, Alexander Hayes, John Burgess, Graham Hayes and Peter Zappa on the design and creation of a seat, water fountain and skateable sculpture. Vincent Mayor John Hyde said the artists, aged between 12 and 25, had diverse backgrounds and life experiences.‘…They were selected as much for what they could get out of the project as what they could put into it, he said. ‘… The young people will split into three groups, each with lead artists and each working on one of the art works.’ Teams will hold workshops to allow other young people in the community to put forward ideas for the works, which should be complete by September 2001”.
