Abstract / Article

Aquatic Desire is coming to Gralyn Cellars this Easter. As the theme for a festival of art, craft and fashion, the exhibition will conjure up feelings of passion related to the ocean. Artists exhibiting work will include award-winning Bunbury artist and sculptor Alexander Hayes, who had a sellout exhibition at Gralyn last October long weekend. His new work will include paintings, prints and three-dimensional pieces. Alex is combining his work with that of textile artist Kirsty Cox, a lecturer at Edith Cowan University. Large screens, fashion design and framed works will provide interest and variety. Helen O'Reilly, also previously popular exhibitor at Gralyn, will feature sculptural ceramics-large pieces with social comments, related to the Windy Harbour coastline and echoing the passionate colours and shapes of the ocean. Alan Fox, an international glass artist, will feature new works in a variety of exciting colours, featuring gold and silver leaf. Award-winning local jewellery designers Kath Lindann and architect Michael Hutton will exhibit gold and silver jewellery in a variety of pieces, including earrings, brooches, rings and necklaces. The exhibition preview and official opening will be for invited sponsors from 11 AM on Thursday, April 14. There will be a chance for the sponsors and artists to meet over lunch in the winery. Merilyn and Graham Hutton, owners of Gralyn Cellars, welcome the chance to promote high standard local arts and crafts with interested business people who, by the purchase of works, provide the backbone of support for this important facet of the region. This year's lunch will include a parade of fashion and jewellery exhibits by former Miss WA Vicki Stanway. The exhibition will be open to the public for preview from 2 PM on Thursday prior to Easter and will continue over Easter and for two weeks, including school holidays. ‘A Taste of Margaret River’ will also be featured in the winery over Easter, with Barbara Maidment providing tastings of her range of mustards and dressings.
