Glasgow

According to my Father, William Wilson Hayes, Glasgow was a “fekkin tuff place to grow up laddie”. Notwithstanding, as a Glaswegian through and through, his greatest enjoyment was to walk the moors, connect with our ancestral Highlander roots and trek around the northern most regions of Scotland on this amazing Country before he emigrated to Australia in the early 1960’s.

Here I am thirty-five years too late connecting with what should have been my bloodline clan, now sadly walking alone amongst a very different post-COVID Glasgow at Guy Fawkes season.

Arrival

As any good lad will do, first things first so I landed myself a pint of black ale at central Railway station and just revelled in the new look feel of this amazing city. It felt like I had landed in my home, a place for so long in conversations of the past and now in certain reality

Sandyford Hotel

I located this hotel months ago on Booking.com and scheduled a 6 week stay. It is nothing short of remarkable as its close to the city centre, right next to beautiful Kelvingrove and the University of Glasgow, is neat, tidy and I get a hot breakfast every morning of scrambled eggs, haggis, bacon, potato scones, beans and a coffee. The staff are lovely, the bed comfortable and I am very happy with the whole bathroom setup. I’ve setup a working table and it’s all go.
