In 2014 I co-convened with Professor Robert Fitzgerald a #glassmeetups Symposium at the University of Canberra whilst in my role as a professional Associate at the University of Canberra, INSPIRE Centre. The first #glassmeetups event was a huge success with over 120 people attending. The following data was first posted here in this website then adapted for the #glassmeetup1 post over at the Wayback Machine.

Event Focus
+Rick Sare provided us with a classic use case of where Google Glass is having an impact upon his daily life as a long haul truck driver in the United States of America. This event will provide participants with many practical and useful use cases across a range of professions and occupations.

PROFESSOR MARK BILLINGHURST
University of Canterbury, NZ
Professor Mark Billinghurst is a researcher developing innovative computer interfaces that explore how virtual and real worlds can be merged to enhance face-to-face and remote collaboration. Director of the Human Interface Technology Laboratory (New Zealand) at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, he has produced over 250 technical publications and his work has been demonstrated at a wide variety of conferences.
He is active in several research areas including Augmented and Virtual Reality, mobile user interfaces and collaborative computer interfaces. He has previously worked at ATR Research Labs in Japan, British Telecom’s Advanced Perception Unit, the MIT Media Laboratory and on the Google Glass project team.

JOSHUA LEVITSKY
Joshua Levitsky is a volunteer Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, and Hazardous Materials Specialist in Rockland County, New York. He began volunteering in EMS 24 years ago in New York City. After the attacks of September 11th, 2001, in response to his experiences that day, he joined a Heavy Rescue Squad and Haz-Mat Team in New Jersey. Following a move from New Jersey back to New York he joined the local Fire Department and the County Haz-Mat Team.
He is also in Professional Services at a software company where he implements computer and mobile device management software. Technology interests have always played an equal role to Emergency Services. New technology is always around him because he enjoys seeing how it might fit in to life, and how he might contribute to development.

DAVID W. MARTINEAU MD
Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic surgery, I specialize in hand and upper extremity surgery as well as microsurgery (surgery that involves the use of microscopes). I am especially interested in treating all ailments from the fingertips to the elbow and my research reflects these interests. I began practicing hand surgery in 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona, and moved to Cincinnati-Dayton Ohio where I joined Orthopedic Associates of SW Ohio.
I became a glass explorer a few short months ago and immediately recognized the potential benefits in my field. I helped pioneer the first set of prescription surgical telescopes combined with Google Glass to be used in the operating room. This is an important and necessary first step for me to be able to explore this technology's potential in the intricate field of hand surgery. I'm currently working on ways to control glass effectively in the sterile environment of the operating room. - read more

JULIAN RIDDEN
An unashamed sci-fi and pop-culture geek born and raised in Australia, Julian Ridden left his Moodle Man cape to join Instructure as Captain Canvas. In more official terms, Julian became Instructure’s on-the-ground Canvas Solutions Engineer in Australia.
Julian began working with educators in the early days of the Web, designing blended and e-Learning strategies that focus on real-world learning and open education. He successfully drove these strategies at both Monte Sant Angelo Mercy College and Saint Ignatius College, Riverview in Sydney.
As a disruptive source of subversive education practices, Julian stands at the “coal face” of learning and challenges educators to “think different” about Open Education, Open Source, Global Personal Learning Networks (PLN’s) and wearable tech. He simply won't accept that the way education has always been is the way it should always be. - Read more

LynxFit turns wearable devices into intelligent fitness coaches.
It is an officially featured app on the Google Glass app store and is an award winning virtual fitness and wellness companion that uses voice and visuals to simulate a personal trainer.

TelepathEye works with Glass to enable voice-free texting and other applications by mapping targets to a virtual flywheel. Called EyeSpeech technology, this approach streamlines the UI by minimizing the number of visible targets while maximizing the number of targets that can be intuitively brought into view.
Glass is currently operated primarily by dictation, which is antithetic to the UX of texting and other apps; TelepathEye is working to make eyewearables hands-free voice-free.
Canberra Grammar School is an independent K-12 school located in Canberra, Australia. We offer a unique and practical computing and information technology program as part of our academic and co-curricular offerings.
In Years 7 and 8 boys have the opportunity to join the Code Cadets group, a co-curricular activity which teaches introductory Python programming plus Minecraft mod programming in Java. In Years 9 and 10 boys can choose Information and Software Technology as one of their elective subjects. Web Design and Application Development is offered for Year 9 students, with iPhone and iPad Application Development available for Year 10 students.
In Years 11 and 12 the School offers Software Design and Development as part of the Higher School Certificate, teaching students the foundations and applications of the software development process. There are also many opportunities for extension, including participation in programming challenges, hackathons, and community tech events. We also encourage our students to engage with emerging technologies such as Google Glass, with several of our students already experimenting with Glass development.
One of the unique opportunities offered at CGS is the international tour to San Francisco and Silicon Valley. During 2012 and 2013, students studying IT had an opportunity to visit San Francisco for two weeks during January which included touring major companies in Silicon Valley such as Google, Apple, Cisco, and NetApp. Our next trip is planned for January 2015 and we always welcome invitations from new companies and groups to visit.
