Abstract

According to the draft Youth Advantage Strategy published in May 2004, despite the provision of online service delivery that interleaves flexible and negotiable training with traditional forms of delivery, a large number of students continue to drop out of secondary education for a variety of reasons. This report highlights that young people who are at risk of disengaging with the traditional education or training sector need support which guarantees their retention and inclusion in learning environments which cater for a change in learner's style including new forms of delivery modality. I consider that the working document 'Shaping The VET Practitioner For The Future' released by the Department in 2004 expands upon this need of the aging VET sector to develop strategies and training in order for these practitioners to deliver effectively in an ever shifting field of virtual spaces and places.
