Visiting Researcher Aalto University

I was awarded a Visiting Researcher role at the Learning Environments Research Group (LeGroup) of the Department of Media, School of Arts, Design and Architecture at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland on the 1st January 2013 between the period of February 25 and March 16, 2013.

I took part in many different activities including the LeGroup Open Design Conference and testing of POV equipment including the VIO POV, the ELMO SUV, Pivothead and EDUPOV camera glasses.

The researcher engaged with the LeGroup members in body worn camera testing in a range of industrial, commercial, academic and public settings, contributing to robust discussions centred on privacy and the role of data emanating from such devices. During workshops, at early morning design lab meetings, in collaboration with other staff members the researcher produced numerous POV videos captured wearing Pivothead, EDUPOV-1, ELMO SUV Cam and camera glasses exploring scenarios for use, functionality issues and technical testing.

Here is a short media article I wrote on return from Helsinki - [ PDF ]

Whilst I was there I completed a publication titled 'Scenarios for peer-to-peer learning in construction with emerging forms of collaborative computing' [ HTML ]

I also presented at the the Department of Media, Research Symposium on February 28, 2013 and presented  ‘Body Worn Camera Technologies in Industry’ during the intermission period.
