Aquatic Desire

Artist Statement

The symbolic entrance to business establishments in the Margaret River region of Western Australia is often open for ripe parody. In a seemingly gratuitous act of self-deprecation the Artist's hand-built and assembled a large wooden structure at the entrance to the Gralyn Cellars Winery, Willyabrup, Western Australia as part of the ‘Aquatic Desire’ exhibition of works. The timber was sourced from discarded timbers found on the property, de-nailed and hand planed clean, then cut to length, transported, and assembled (dangerous proposition) using nothing but bolts, washers, and nuts. A bright curved roof surface was later added to bring out a ‘crashing wave’ form, visible to passers-by, often curious as to what this ‘Bali holiday’ looking entrance statement was for the exhibition.
