Artist Statement
It is not often that ‘graffiti’ street artists meet up and showcase their ‘getting up’ skills with private schools boys, particularly in the context of an articulated pedagogically approved senior fine arts program. In 2005, Alexander Hayes facilitated meetings with school management to kickstart an arts program with a class of 12 school students who met and engaged with artist Damien ‘Task’ Seery. A renowned Australian aerosol artist, Seery engaged in multiple artwork activities including large canvas works and one semi-interior mural at the Guildford Grammar Boys School, Western Australia. Later in the program, a guest artist Brody ‘WZone’ Rahaley visited and delivered a hands-on workshop demonstrating his incredible works in action, paid the princely sum of $250 AUD for a half-hour ‘getting up’ session.
