Artist Statement
The southwest of Western Australia is a magical corner of Australia, naturally imbued with a magnificent coastline and rolling hills between. Sadly it also has a tragic history with many thousands of Noongar Aboriginal people slaughtered by settlers from other countries. The Bunkers Bay Series is a collection of works I was commissioned to produce for a new home being built Leesa Collins of Bunbury, Western Australia in 1993 and 1994. This collection of works depicts the various modes of engagement I was working across in response to the environment, to the differing climatic shifts, locations, and the people of that region.
