Artist Statement
Inspired by the lucid works of artist and theorist Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky, as well as the contemporary figurative works of artist John Paul, I set about interpreting the writings of Western Australian author Daniel Oxenburgh in late 1997. This was a major commission and a substantial investment of resources into my art practice, which was later also reciprocated with a large solo exhibition at Gomboc Gallery, Middle Swan, Western Australia. I produced seventeen (17) paintings, sixty-one (61) mono | lithographic | linocut prints, and hundreds of drawings of various scales and dimensions in my Bunbury studio, Mt. Lawley studio, and later in my Brook Road, Darlington studio. These artworks are retained in the Oxenburgh and Ambrose Family collections who have, along with a number of other collectors, generously upheld the integrity of the artworks, as they are important works of scale that mark transitions to my later illustrations of Daniel’s poetry. ‘Quicksilver’ in 2008. I treasure this long collaboration period as Daniel is a gifted author and friend.
