Artist Statement
The vagaries of the Australian male, complete with homophobia, sexism, racism, and crude vernaculars come under scrutiny in this creative interrogation as one part of my Honours presentation at the School of Art, Curtin University, in 2002. This creative work as an installation informed the application for a Creative Doctorate commenced in 2003. This art installation was comprised of digital and performance-based works derivative of an event that formed the basis for audio and visual content for an installation and film projection. The 'fractal' videography edit came about after long discussions with artist Michael McFarlane Reid (deceased) in Fremantle, Western Australia, and the event was agreed to be hosted by blacksmith Mick Muir (deceased). The audio setup and plunderphonic recordings were made by artist Rob Muir, Perth Western Australia, and the installation was presented at the SOFA 2 exhibition at John Curtin Gallery, Curtin University in November 2002.
